From “dewy dumpling” glow to “glazed donut” skin, the fresh-and-natural look continues to be a sought-after aesthetic — no matter what the TikTok skin-fluencers call it. And as beauty trends dominate the industry, it’s no surprise that certain ingredients rise to stardom. Enter hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring humectant that’s become synonymous with hydration.

Hyaluronic acid seems to be in everything these days, which has left many wondering: Is it a holy grail or just all hype? Urban Decay’s Hyaluronic Acid Dewy Setting Spray, the newest addition to the All Nighter family, is one of the latest products to tout this buzzworthy ingredient.

The original All Nighter Setting Spray has been a fan favorite for years, renowned for its ability to live up to its name. Building on its success, Urban Decay expanded the collection to include five different formulations: original, ultra matte, extra glow, vitamin C — and now — hyaluronic acid.

The Hyaluronic Acid Dewy Setting Spray claims to boost makeup vibrancy and hydrate the skin, leaving you with a radiant, glowy finish. But with hyaluronic acid listed as the second-to-last ingredient, does this spray truly deliver on its promise? Moreover, could a light spritz penetrate through a full face of makeup well enough to actually be beneficial?

According to Urban Decay, the answer is yes. The brand, which encourages experimentation, shared three different ways to reap the product’s benefits:

  1. Prep and set: Spray on to bare skin as a primer for instant hydration and again to set makeup for a vibrant glow

  2. Juicy finish: Saturate your sponge and use to apply foundation, creating a flawless, glowy look

  3. Wet shimmer highlight: Swipe Moondust Glitter Eyeshadow onto your finger, then spray before applying to eyelids and cheekbones to enhance pigment payoff

In true Urban Decay fashion, the Hyaluronic Acid Dewy Setting Spray has an undeniable punk-rock flair. While many beauty brands opt for a soft, minimal aesthetic, Urban Decay dives into a world of graffiti, street style, and individuality. The product packaging — a hot pink bottle with lime green accents — stands out on the shelves and social media. And those same dominant colors extend beyond the bottle and throughout the campaign visuals, including models’ eye shadow, nail polish, and clothes.

Cheeky, commercial-esque promo videos bring the product to life by showcasing its benefits in real-life scenarios. In one video, captioned “Holds longer than your patience,” a woman’s makeup stays flawless — even while waiting for a text back from her situationship. In another, with text reading “Bounce back from sticky situations,” the setting spray helps makeup survive a kitchen disaster. Through clever storytelling, Urban Decay taps into its sassy brand attitude and lets you know it’s not messing around.

Another unique quality of the Hyaluronic Acid Dewy Setting Spray is its watermelon scent. Personally, I’m not convinced a setting spray needs to be scented at all, but it’s a playful move by a playful brand. Plus, watermelon was a great choice. Not only is the fruit synonymous with summer, it’s also one of the most hydrating foods you can eat. In terms of skincare, watermelon extract is said to be moisturizing, so it could give an extra boost of hydration.

And if the product itself doesn’t leave you feeling refreshed, one look at Urban Decay’s Instagram feed certainly will. The campaign imagery feels like a big gulp of water, featuring water droplets, juicy watermelons, and bouncing bubbles.

Whether it’s truly hydrating or just another product that’s more style than substance, the Hyaluronic Acid Dewy Setting Spray has certainly made a splash. And at the end of the day, the intrigue alone might be reason enough to try it.
