If we're going to listen to anyone regarding the subject of letting your inner light shine, it's going to be the iconic Dolly Parton. We know, we know. We're being a bit hypocritical. Because is another celeb brand really necessary? No. But are we going to support Dolly's launch of Dolly Beauty because it's Dolly? Absolutely.
"Grit and lipstick, two things you should never leave home without!" the site exclaims.
Parton makes a good point. If we need a confidence boost, a swipe of bold lipstick often does the trick. So what is Dolly Beauty offering?
The lipstick collection under the Dolly Beauty brand is named Heaven's Gate and currently features (4) shades:
Jolene Red
Rosebud
Birthday Suit
Honey Plumb
But it's important to note that the brand is already promising more shades soon.
Each lipstick retails at $20.00 and is housed in a fabulously sparkly, rhinestone-encrusted tube with gold accents. Dolly has always been a beauty icon in her own right, so her entry into the color cosmetics category certainly feels aligned.
And the packaging is exactly what we would want from her brand.
According to the Dolly Beauty site, Heaven's Gate lipsticks provide a "smooth satin finish for the perfect pout from daytime to showtime." It shares that every one of the shades has been hand selected by Dolly herself in collaboration with her formulators.
As well as an over-the-top exterior aesthetic, the wearer can enjoy a special fragrance featuring "lychee blossom, rose petals and vanilla orchid."
These moisturizing lipsticks are both vegan and paraben free, but we could see some potential dislike towards the special fragrance that's incorporated in the formulas. Given that Parton has previously launched fragrances prior to her Heaven's Gate collection, it does make sense to us from a brand perspective that attention was paid here, too.
The marketing behind this is savvy enough to place Dolly front and center. The superstar's likability and unmatched charm is the brand's biggest asset. With that kind of star power and such a saturated cosmetics landscape, there needs to be a reason and a why for consumers to press "Add to Cart."
We see Parton talking to the camera as if we're old friends, interacting with the models for a cozy Q&A on set for the photoshoot, and decked out in true Dolly style across all visuals being put out to promote the launch.
Is Parton-level charisma from the lovable founder enough to thrive as a new beauty brand in this current climate? Only time will tell, but we're definitely invested in following along.
