The Phone Case That Broke the Internet

Do We Need Hailey Bieber's Viral Lip Case?

Whether you’re a fan or not, Hailey Bieber is a trendsetter. From strawberry girl makeup to glazed donut skin, she is the IT girl of 2024.

So when Hailey posted a selfie with a phone case that has a dedicated storage slot for a rhode skin lip treatment, the internet kind of went…nuts.

Retailing for $35, the silicone lip phone case will be available for purchase on rhodeskin.com on February 27th at 9 am PST (the waitlist is now open).

Do note, though - it’s only available in a light mint color for iPhone 14 pro/pro max and iPhone 15 pro/pro max.

So if you’re still rocking your iPhone 12, will this push you to upgrade finally?

Lip products are one of the biggest categories in the beauty industry this year.

Every brand seems to be coming out with lip oils and lip treatments.

We can’t even keep up here at The Beauty Brief.

By developing a phone case designed to perfectly house a rhode lip treatment, Hailey is ensuring you’ll stay loyal to rhode.

And you won’t lose your lippie, which, let’s be real, is an ongoing problem for most of us.

Plus, with Apple Pay, no one needs a wallet case anymore.

We just need our phone and lip balm.

Right, girlies?

There’s also virality built into this product. Once people post selfies with it, more consumers are going to want to purchase one for themselves.

Hailey posting a video of taking her lip case to the Superbowl for a mid-game touch up made me want it EVEN more. The power of celebrities. Sigh

The launch of this product, hailed as “pure genius” by many in the beauty industry, also sparked controversy and critique amidst the excitement.

For instance, a post went viral on Twitter, claiming that Hailey is allegedly being accused of stealing the lip case’s design from a small artist @St4ngeThing with 193K followers on Instagram whose works have been featured in magazines such as Vogue and Complex. His phone case stores wine on the back.

People are claiming rhode’s logo placement and minimalistic design appear similar to his.

Rhode's website touts the brand's commitment to having a "minimal footprint" and being eco-friendly. This launch is therefore facing criticism for generating excessive waste, seemingly at odds with the sustainability ethos Rhode aims to project.

Additionally, people took to Reddit and TikTok to make fun of how the lip case’s design resembles a woman’s labia. I see it. I don’t want to see it. Hilarious.

Brands and content creators are also poking fun at Hailey’s phone case by making a budget-friendly/DIY version with various products taped to the back of any old phone case.

Funny and kinda cute.

What are your thoughts on Hailey’s lip case launch?
