A Retinol Serum For Everyone?
Heard of the brand Sepia? Didn’t think so.
The brand just launched in August.
But wait.
Before you roll your eyes and tell us about how the beauty space is oversaturated, let’s take a look at the single, groundbreaking SKU they launched — a clinically backed retinol that’s been tested on all skin types, from pale to dark brown.
You see, Sepia founder Anna Bueno has over 15 years of experience with clinical studies in the healthcare field but was disappointed to find that such studies rarely represented an array of skin tones.
Anna partnered with beauty industry expert, Mike Modula to create a skincare brand with high standards. They landed on the brand name, @Sepia as a reference to the sepia-like rainbow that appears when looking at a range of skin tones.
The brand’s tagline is “skin.care.for.everyone”. They set out to build a brand with inclusivity as a foundation, not an afterthought.
And we love that.
But do they walk the talk?
Absolutely.
Sepia commissioned a 12-week clinical study of 43 participants representing the complete range of six Fitzpatrick skin phototypes, with more than half (55%) representing the darker phototypes IV, V, and VI.
Based on their retinol’s clinicals, 95% reported that their skin felt smoother and softer, 88% reported visible signs of improved skin texture, and 84% reported a more even-looking skin tone.
Sounds incredible!
We also love how Sepia set out to create a non-irritating retinol. Most brands have been shying away from this powerful active, coming out with retinol alternatives instead.
But Sepia didn’t shy away from the task.
The co-founders shared with us that the clinical research supporting the benefits of these alternatives pale in comparison to the real deal — properly dosed retinol.
We think it was a smart move on Sepia’s founders’ part to launch with a single SKU that’s sure to become a best-seller.
Eventide Retinol Renewing Serum’s encapsulated retinol comes in a .3% dosage and is perfect for beginners and retinol lovers alike. The formula also includes hyaluronic acid, copper, amino acids, and ceramides.
Sepia’s site has an interactive ingredient list made possible by the ingredient transparency company ClearForMe that displays everything in the formula.
We are in love.
Be sure to give this retinol a try.
It’s worth the investment.
