Mother Science Enters The Retinol Chatroom With New Launch

Updated: Jun 7

The mother of all retinols?

Buzzy ingredients are a dime a dozen in the beauty industry, and when a new one enters the chat, our ears perk up. In 2023, Mother Science, a brand started by Incubus’ lead guitarist Mike Einziger and his wife Ann Marie Einziger, did just that. The brand burst on the scene, introducing us to malassezin, a relatively new ingredient with potent brightening abilities.

Their initial launch brought us the Molecular Hero Serum formulated with malassezin to brighten dark spots and sun damage. Since its debut, it’s received praise from editors for its stunning results. Now, the team has entered the retinol sphere with the Retinol Synergist treatment.

By now, most of us know the benefits of retinol like the back of our hands. It’s a powerhouse on its own. But what sets this serum apart from the sea of others is that it includes malassezin. The two work harmoniously together to create a potent anti-aging treatment.

Dubbed a next-generation serum, Retinol Synergist promises to do it all— reduce wrinkles, support the skin barrier, and even tone and texture. As Mother Science explains, malassezin calming properties decrease the adjustment period for the skin to adapt to a retinoid treatment ultimately allowing for a stronger product with less irritation.

It may sound too good to be true, but Mother Science is rooted in bio-technology, and you better believe that they have the research to back up their claims.

According to the data on the brand’s website, a 4-week clinical study resulted in 94% of the participants noticing firmer skin and fewer wrinkles and fine lines. It also reported that 97% of the participants noticed their skin was much more radiant than before.

According to Cristina Bartosch, The VP of Marketing, "Mother Science believes in empowering customers with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their skincare. That's why we've made it a priority to break down the science behind Retinol Synergist in a way that's accessible and engaging."

Retinol Synergist is currently only sold on Mother Science’s website. It’s housed in a dark gray metallic bottle and comes in a 30ml/1oz size, priced at $96. You can also find it in the brand’s Skin Renewal Kit, which includes the Molecular Hero Serum and the Retinol Synergist for $157.

At its core Mother Science is all about biotechnology and molecular biology, and its marketing strategy follows that same ethos. The Science tab on their website breaks down the discovery of their star ingredient and all its benefits in lingo any skincare enthusiast can understand.

But just in case science isn’t your thing, you can learn all about Retinol Synergist in a series of alluring visuals showing off the product and its super sleek packaging.
